Now you've seen some learners and their level of need, common barriers to access, and the general travel training pathway. Take a moment to review the important points and some common challenges in travel training.
The goal of training is to enable your learner to use public transport independently and safely. As you provide and review transport practice, the aim is to eventually pull back and leave your learner with their own capability.
Training is centred on your learner. The way you deliver the training will depend on your learner's objectives, barriers to transport, learning capabilities and their circumstances.
A common focus in enabling independence is to help your learner develop coping strategies for when the unexpected occurs. This can involve using technology and other tools as a way of coping when things go wrong. But it also means building confidence in your learner that they can cope with the unexpected.
